About Shadrach Thayer

Geographical note: The area that is now the city of Quincy was originally in Suffolk County but is now part of Norfolk County. The area was first settled in 1625. The settlement was briefly part of Dorchester and Boston before becoming the north precinct of Braintree in 1640. In 1792, Quincy was split off from Braintree, and became a separate town named after Colonel John Quincy, the maternal grandfather of Abigail Adams. It became a city in 1888.
