About Sherman Wolcott Adams
Hartford Born in Wethersfield Conn May 5 1836 the son of Welles Adams and Mary Welles Griswold He is a descendant of William Adams of Cambridge Mass who died in 1853 and others of his ancestry were early settlers of Wethersfield.
He was educated at the Wethersfield Academy and the Alger Institute at Cornwall Conn Studied law with Heman II Barbour, esq Thomas C Perkins esq and at the Harvard Law School. Admitted to the bar in Boston Mass in 1861.
He was an assistant paymaster in the United States navy from March 1862 to October 1864. He was a member of the General Assembly from the town of Wethersfield in 1866; associate judge of the Police Court of Hartford from 1877 to 1883 and since 1884 has been president of the Board of Park Commissioners. He received the degree of A.M. from Trinity College in 1894. He is a member of the American Historical Association and of the Harvard Law School Association and the Connecticut Historical Society.
He translated Tenot's "Coup d'Etat de Napoleon III;" was the author of several chapters of the "Memorial History of Hartford County" and has published many historical sketches.
