Shulamis "Shirley" Hoffmann, age 84, of Farmington, CT, passed away at her home on Wednesday, (August 8, 2012). Born in Harbin, China to the late Abraham and Fania (Egootkin) Froloff, Mrs. Hoffmann spent the war years in Shanghai, China where she met her husband of 60 years, Paul Hoffmann. They resided in Redding, CT, and relocated to Farmington in 2002. Shirley used her knowledge of and fluency in Russian to help re-settle Jews from the Soviet Union in the Bridgeport area. She was a volunteer for the Jewish Family Service, was an active member of the Jewish Community Center and a life member of Hadassah. She enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, golf, reading and knitting caps for premature newborns. She especially enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hoffmann is survived by her children, Attorney Abraham Hoffmann and wife Jayne of Trumbull, CT, and Jean Lewanda and her husband Douglas of Farmington, CT; her grandchildren, Rebecca Pollack and her husband Brian of Summit, NJ, Emily Hoffmann of Fairfield, CT, David Lewanda and his wife Erica of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Cara Lewanda of Houston, TX; and by great-grandchildren, Jonathan Henry and Alexis Sarah Lewanda. Mrs. Hoffmann was also predeceased by her brother Tuvia Froloff. The Hoffmann and Lewanda families would like to thank the administration and staff of The Gables of Farmington for ten plus years of excellent service and care of their parents, and Clair Vernal for her loving and tender care of our mother in her final days. Services will take place on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 at 2 p.m. from The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road in Fairfield, with interment following at Beth El Cemetery on Reid Street.
