About Shuliang He 叔梁紇
姓子 氏孔 名紇 字叔梁
Shu Lianghe (simplified Chinese: 叔 梁 纥; traditional Chinese: 叔 梁 紇) born 619 BCE ad died 548 BCE. According to the Chinese tradition he was the father of Confucius.
He was the son of Boxia (伯夏), the father of Confucius and Governor Lu (鲁国 / 鲁國, lǔ guó), in present Shandong (山东 / 山東). He was also one of the greatest warriors of his time and would be the descendant of Yi Yin (伊尹) Premier Cheng Tang (成湯) founding father of the Shang Dynasty (商朝, 1570 BCE to 1045 BCE).
He is famous for having repelled the invasion of Qi in the outskirts of Qufu 563 BCE. He had a very imposing stature measuring over seven feet. He was also physically very strong and it was said that he could lift loads that were thought not to be lifted.
Around sixty-five, he married a daughter of the Yan family, Zheng Zai, who was fifteen, he had first married a daughter of the Shi family who bore him nine daughters, and from his second marriage, he had a son Meng Pi (zh) (孟皮). With Zheng Zai, he begat Confucius. He died at the respectable age of seventy-one, unfortunately leaving his son prodigy, aged three and Zheng Zai destitute.
