Sidney "Sam" Saporito, 80, formerly of Farmington, No. 9 and Shinnston communities, went to be with his wife Bonnie and grandson Drew on We d n e s d a y (Dec. 8, 2010). He was born March 4, 1930, in Marion County, a son of the late Andy and Josephine Moffa Saporito. Sam was a coal miner for 36 years, working at several coal mines and then retiring from Martinka Mines in 1995. He was a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge No. 209 in Enterprise. In his day he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Those that knew him remember how much he loved breaking out the deck of cards to play with his sons, grandsons and even great-grandsons, as well as other friends that were special to him. He is survived by his five children, Andy Saporito and wife Mary of Enterprise, Danny Saporito and wife Barb of Wilmington, N.C., Richard Saporito of Fairmont, Joy and Bub Martin of Fairmont, and Sammy Saporito and wife Jeanette of Shinnston; grandchil­dren, Andy and Mike Saporito of Enterprise, Paula Shreve, Misty Rogers and Danny Saporito, all of Wilmington, N.C., Donald "Bubby" Martin of Clarksburg, Zach Martin of Fairmont, Richard and Ian Saporito of Charleston, and Tony Saporito of Shinnston; step-grandsons, Eddie and Chris Riffle of Rivesville; one brother, John Saporito of Fairmont; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; his sister­in- law, Barbara Charlesworth of New Jersey; brothers-in-law, Thomas and Sue Shingleton of Spelter and Jobill and Lou Shingleton of Enterprise; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, wife and grandson, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Frank Saporito, and four sis­ters, Sonta Mercer, Christine Henderson, Rose Shreve and Nancy Bland. Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Paul Mitchell officiating.
