Siegfried Lewald

The parents of Siegfried Lewald were called Salomon Lewald ( born on 07/09/1860, died on 12/01/1940) and Jette Lewald ( Jette Krakenberger, died on 08/02/1924).

Salomon’s parents are Isak Lewald (died in Homburg a. Main, tanner) and Mathilde Lewald (Mathilde Luck, died in Homburg a. Main).

The father of Jette Lewald was called Jakob Krakenberger (a merchant).Salomon Lewald and Jette Lewald married on 25/04/1887 in Homburg a. Main.

On 25/03/1892 their daughter Rosa Lewald was born and a year later, on 03/07/1893, their son Siegfried Lewald was born.

In May, 1910 Siegfried (17 years old) moved from Homburg a. Main to Aschaffenburg with his parents and his sister.

The family lived at Bustellistraße 10. Siegfried became a merchant, just like his father.

Siegfried’s sister Rosa died in 1921 (just 29 years old) and three years later in 1924, his mother died as well. In 1931, Siegfried married Käthe Weissenberg in Gleiwitz. She was the daughter of a factory owner in Nicolai (Poland).

Their children’s names are Roselore Lewald and Hans Georg Lewald (born 1936).

Roselore was at a Jewish school in Aschaffenburg and in 1939 she was able to travel to England.

On 12/01/1940 at 10:00pm (at the age of 79) Salomon Lewald died of artheriosclerosis and other causes at the house of his son in Bustellistraße in Aschaffenburg.

In 1942 Siegfried Lewald, his wife and his son were brought to Würzburg and then deported to Krasnystaw, where they were also killed.

Siegfried (Fedor) Lewald (* 3. Juli 1893 in Homburg am Main / Marktheidenfeld)[3] war mit Käthe Lewald, geb. Weißenberg verheiratet. Er kam 1910 nach Aschaffenburg und betrieb eine Metall-Großhandlung mit Warenlager am Südbahnhof in Aschaffenburg. Er war Vorstandsmitglied im „Reichsbund jüdischer Frontsoldaten“, der die Erinnerung an den Einsatz deutscher jüdischer Soldaten im Ersten Weltkrieg pflegte. Seine Muter starb 1924 und sein Vater 1940 in Aschaffenburg. Seine Tochter Roselore (* 1932) konnte 1939 mit einem Kindertransport nach London entkommen. Siegfried Lewald und seine Ehefrau Käthe wurden mit ihrem sechsjährigen Sohn Hans Georg (* 1936) im April 1942 nach Krasnyczin deportiert und umgebracht.[2]
