BIOGRAPHY Sigfrid III von Fraunberg von dem Haag was born in 1272, the younger son of Berthold von Fraunberg and Adelheid von Lupburg, daughter of Konrad V von Lupburg. Sigfrid married Adelheid von Preysing, and they had four sons, Konrad I, Sigfrid IV, Berthold II and Heinrich I, of whom Sigfrid and Heinrich would have progeny.
Sigfrid III ruled Haag from 1276 to 1317. He was arrogant and aggressive, and when he did not get his way he reached for his sword. This was shown by his many feuds and above all by his readiness to go to war to achieve his ends. Around 1280 he went to war against the bishopric of Salzburg to end its influence in the county of Haag. In 1304 he acquired the lordship of Hohenburg am Inn. In 1317 he pursued a bloody feud with the bishopric of Freising, in which he stormed the castles of Kranzberg and Burgrain and allowed some of their stubborn defenders to be massacred. After his death his son Sigfrid IV continued the conflict.
Sigfrid III died before 11 November 1317. His eldest son Konrad I became lord of the county of Haag.
