About Silas A. Alling
Silas Alling, son of Daniel Alling and Rebecca Cooper, was born Sept. 11, 1734 in New Haven, New Haven Co., Connecticut. He was baptized Nov. 3, 1734 at the First Church of New Haven and married DORCAS BALDWIN on Mar. 23, 1756 at the Congregational Church in Woodbridge, Conn.
Children were: Elizabeth Ann (1755-1837, m. Gilbert), Rebecca (1/27/1760-3/29/1780), Amos (1764-1820,m. Amelia Beecher), Edward (1768-1815, m. Rachel Alling), Silas (1771-1805, m. Ruth Parker), and Lewis (5/2/1779-9/5/1823, M. Elizabeth Clark), and Asa (1781-1866, m. Clarina Umberfield).
Since Silas and Dorcas died and were probably buried in the New Haven Green, its probable, since their burial was so close to the time that some of the bodies were reburied in the Grove Street Cemetery (1822), that they were moved there. The fact that their son Silas, who died in 1805, is buried in the Grove Street Cemetery at 40 Linden Ave, Lot 92, gives much credance to that probability that they were moved there.
He made his will Apr. 27, 1809, which was presented in Probate Court on July 4, 1817. His sons, Asa and Edward were appointed executors, one-third of his estate was given to wife Dorcas, and the remainder equally to Elizabeth, wife of John Scott; William Noyes Jr., son of daughter Rebecca, deceased; to sons Amos, Edward, Lewis, Asa, and heirs of son Silas, deceased.
