In February of 1778, when he was almost 16 years of age, Simeon D' Meranville of Freetown was drafted by Captain Norton who commanded a militia company. He was stationed at Fall River for 6 weeks about 5 miles above Howland's ferry, commanded by Sergeant Ichabod Reed.
