About Simeon "Sim" R Scarborough
Simeon R. Scarborough was the eldest child of Addison Scarborough, born about 1805 in Burke County Georgia. Although the names of his grandparents are unknown, it is believed that Addison's father was Elder Shadrach Scarborough, the son of David Scarborough of Edgecombe County North Carolina.
Simeon R. Scarborough married about 1830 in either Dallas or Wilcox County Alabama to Mary Emily/Eunice Moseley. In 1830, he lived on his father's plantation on the Dallas/Wilcox County line, near the village of Snow Hill. In 1850, he lived with his family in Dallas County and worked as a carpenter.
About 1855, Sim and Mary moved their family from Alabama to Leon County Texas. They moved with Sim's younger brother, Matthew D. Scarborough. In 1860, Sim and Matt lived near Centerville, the Leon County seat, with Sim Scarborough working as a mechanic. He had acquired a farm valued at $400.
Simeon R. Scarborough was still alive in 1874 but died by 12 January 1876. Despite his living in Texas between 1855 and his death twenty years later, his family remained in close contact with the family of his brother, Noah Scarborough, who moved to Union Parish Louisiana in 1847.
