SIMON I de Lalaing
(youngest son of Simon III, lord of Lalaing), knight, lord of Quiévrain (in 1376, by purchase of his cousin the lord of Aspremont), of Hordaing and seneschal of Ostievant (in 4362, by purchase of the vidame of Chartres), bailiff of Hainaut (from 1358 to 1362 and from 1372 to 1386), died in office, in the year 1386, lying in the monastery of Beaumon in Valenciennes and having had several children of his wife Jeanne DU ROEULX said of Escaussines, namely:

1° Simon, who follows.

2° Jean de Lalaing, knight, lord of Hordaing and seneschal of Ostrevant, who died around 1420, without child of Marie DE MELEUN, provost of Douai, whom he had married in 1404, daughter of Hugues, knight, lord of Antoing, and of Béatrix de Beausart.

Around the year 1398, the lord of Hordaing was "adjourned and held prisouniers or castiel in Mons, for souppechon, which sour lui courait, que de auoir fait ochire, par aucun de ses sieruiteurs et sans cause raisenauble, Jehan de Mande, bastard, et liquels fais li fu imposés à plain en le presence de mons d'Ostreuant et de son conseil : quil mist en partie en ny. 3° Guillaume de Lalaing, knight, lord of Hordaing and seneschal of Ostrevant (after his brother), lord of Mares, died around 1435. In 1427, having become the head of his branch, he bore the quarterly of Lalaing and Quiévrain, without a break. From his wife, Marguerite DE LA HAMAIDE, daughter of Jean, knight, lord of the said place, and of Marie, lady of Woziers, he left only seemingly a bastard child:

....A. Jacqueline de Lalaing, without posterity of her husband Raoul DE CRÉQUY, esquire, brother-in-law of Guillaume, lord of Lalaing (see first branch, XI), to whom these spouses ceded, around 1441, the land of Hordaing.

4° Marie de Lalaing, died around 1416, having married : 1° in 1379, Willaume DE LIGNE, knight, eldest son of the lord of Ligne, who died without heir; 2° in 1384, Englebert D'ENGHIEN, lord of Rameru, knight, with whom she lies in the abbey of Cambron; whose posterity.

5° Mahaut de Lalaing, deceased in 1406, wife of Ansel, lord of TRAZEGNIES, knight, with whom she lies in the priory of Herlemont, near Trazegnies and Floreffe. From which descend the modern marquises of Trazegnies.

6° Marguerite de Lalaing, nun at the Dominican convent of Beaumont in Valenciennes in 1385.

7° Jeanne de Lalaing, abbess of Flines in 1419, which was also the year of her death; indicated thus, in 1385, in the "notice" of her father and mother: "Jehenne, our daughter, rendered in the church of Flines." She was the niece of the abbess Gille II de Lalaing, who died in 1387 (see first branch, VIII

He seems to have left a bastard child:
....A. Jean de Lalaing, bastard of Hordaing, esquire, living in 1440, husband of "damoiselle Jehenne LE JONNE, widow of Jehan de Grés"; she bore: Gules with three silver twins. He himself had for arms: Quarterly of Lalaing and Quiévrain, the break of bastardy being a net of azure posed in bar and broaching on the whole (Cabinet of the titles; genealogical table), account of the great bailliage of Hainaut, from September 1, 1387 to April 1, 1398, f° 13. - Cf. account of April 13 to September 1, 1398, folio 6.

On June 28, 1437, "Jehan, bastart de Hordaing," bought a fief located "or terroit de Le Glisoelle" from "Jehan dit Bliart de Le Glisoelle, escuier" (departmental archives, account of the great bailliage of Hainaut, September 1, 1436-August 31, 1437, f° 3).

(107) départ., compte du grand bailliage de Hainaut, du 1er septembre 1387 au 1er avril 1398, f° 13. — Cf. compte du 13 avril au 1er septembre 1398, folio 6.
