Have another source saying was born 13 Aug 1677 Simon Stevens, Son of Cyprian Stevens, was born in Boston, Mass. 13 Aug 1677-78. He died in Marlborough, Mass, 25 Jan 1758. In 1701 at Marlborough, Mass, He married Mary Wilder, daughter of Martha Wilder ( probably the widow of Nathaniel Wilder ).Mary was born 12 May, 1679 at Sudbury. She died before June 1729-probably at Plainfield, Conn. Simon Stevens was a blacksmith and owned the Covenant at Marlborough. In 1708 he went to Lancaster and was there till 1723. In 1725 he was in Plainfield, Conn. where he lived but a short time, returning to Marlborough, where 29 Oct, 1731 he sold land. We find deeds from him dated at Marlborough as late as 19 Dec. 1759. While in Plainfield he sold 17 Jan 1725 land " to my son Cyprian of Plainfield" ----------------------------------------------------------------- From The Stevens Family by E.H. Stevens-He lived in Marlborough,Mass Lancaster,Mass. and Plainfield Conn. He was a large landowner. He and Mary Wilder had 10 children. ---------------------------------------------------------------- From History of Lancaster by Rev. Abijah P. Marvin. He was wounded in the Indian battle where one of his brother-in-laws was killed ( Jonathan Wilder ) and another severly wounded ( Ephraim Wilder ). His father-in-law ( Nathaniel Wilder ) was killed before in another Indian attack. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From records of Church of Christ of Lancaster Much of the information confirms dates ect. from other sources. Confirms marriage date of Simon to Mary. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF MARLBOROUGH by Charles Hudson Simon Stevens married first in 1701 Mary Wilder of Lancaster who died and he married second Mrs Mary ( Gove ) Martin. She died 21 March 1775 aged 85 and 2 months. An anecdote of some interest is told of the ancestry of his second wife, not improbable in itself and as far as the records touch upon the subject they rather confirm it. The tradition is , that sometime during the 17 th century as a vessel was leaving England for this country two young women went on board to take leave of their friend and were invited to take some cake and wine; before they were aware of it the vessel was on its way to New England. One of these young women,Mary Holmes, married a Mr. Gove. Their daughter, Mary, married 30 Jan 1710 Thomas Martin. After the death of her husband 1n 1720 Mary ( Grove ) Martin married Simon Stevens and hence the name Gove has been retained in that branch of the family. Simon Stevens was in Markborough at the time of his marriage in 1701 and had several children born in this place, he afterwards moved to Plainfield, Conn. where he may have died.He widow returned and spent her last days at Marlborough. The record of this family is imperfect. ----------------------------------------------------------------- From GENEALOGY OF NORTHERN PA. Vol 2 Information in this book, pg 765 verifies above information. ---------------------------------------------------------------- From THE WILLARD MEMOIR- SAJOR SIMON WILLARD by Joseph Willard The reason that he was born in Boston probably was because his parnts had fled there from Lancaster due to the King Philip's War.

Sudbury was Marlborough's "mother town". The General Court was petitioned in 1656 to make a town "eight miles distant" from Sudbury, which petition was granted and the Marlborough Plantation was formed

The Stevens family was in Plainfield by 1723, when their daughter Mary would be about 18 years of age and Joseph Shepard a few years older. There is no record of her death or of her marriage. Joseph and Mary Shepard named a son Simon and a daughter Elizabeth (Bette), neither of which was a Shepard name. Simon Stevens had a daughter Elizabeth. His wife died in Plainfield between 1727 and 1729 and by 1732 he was living in Marlborough with a later wife. He died there January 28, 1753, aged about eighty.
