Biography
Simon Holte, born about 1310, the son of John Holte. He married Albreda Castell. [1]

Simon Holte or del Holte, styled of Birmingham, married Albreda. This Simon, in 1331, (5 Edward III) purchased the manor of Nechells, in consideration of xl. li. of silver, from Alice, widow of Sir George de Castells.[2]

Manor of Nechells or Echelles
According to the Victoria County History, [3] the manor of Nechells, or Echelles, was granted by Osbert de Parles to his bastard son Reynold, whose son Simon left three daughters. The estate came to Alice, daughter of Agnes, the second daughter; she married Sir George de Castello, and their son William de Castello held Nechells of Roger de Somery in 1291 and of John de Somery in 1323. Alice, as a widow, is said to have conveyed her rights in the manor to Simon Holte in 1330, and he presumably acquired it from her heir, as it continued to descend in the Holte family, being still held in 1586 by Edward Holte.
