About Simone Doria
Son of Ansaldo Doria (who was first elected consul of the commune of Genoa in 1134 and took part in several embassies and military expéditions).
Simone served six consulships between 1175 and 1188. In 1189, Simone was elected admiral, leading a fleet in support of troops of Philip Augustus at the siege of Acre in 1190. In 1219, Simone led the Genose fleet in the siege of Damietta (Fifth crusades).
