About Sir Alain lll de Beaufort-en-Plerguel

From Lignages et châteaux de la baillie de Rennes avant la guerre de Succession (xie-xive siècles) by Christophe Amio

The lineage of the Senechals of Dol (genealogical table 7) is established at the Château de Beaufort in Plerguer, on a steep site overlooking a deep valley. The small quadrangular structure flanked by towers of which there are still some traces is preceded by a farmyard. This assimilation of the seneschals of Dol to the Beaufort lineage is made possible thanks to the investigation of the bones of the Archbishop of Dol in 1226 81 . This lineage that can be traced from the last quarter of the xi th century 82 , is originally from the abbey of Tronchet, between 1133 and 1147 83 . The last member, Alain de Beaufort, becomes lord of part of the land of Dinan by alliance 84 . Died after 1247 85, he leaves only two daughters. The eldest, Clémence Dame de Dinan, married Alain d'Avaugour. The second brings the heritage land of Beaufort to Brient de Châteaubriant, younger son of Geoffroy de Châteaubriant, and heir to the property of the elder branch of the du Guesclins. His descendants male preserve until the xvii th century. Beaufort Castle appears to have been abandoned in favor of Plessis-Bertrand at the union of the two lands in the middle of xiii th century.
