About Sir Alexander Abercrombie, MP, 1st Baronet of Birkenbog

He was the first Baronet of Birkenbog, and he was created Baronet of Nova Scotia on February 20, 1636. (This was a money-making scheme. There were 122 barons of Nova Scotia made before 1639. The barons had to pay for their titles.)

He was a member of Parliament from Banffshire and opposed King Charles I . A Covenanter, he took an active part against King Charles during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, aka the British Civil Wars. In May 1645, according to Burke's Peerage, he "joined Major Urry" and fought at the Battle of Aldearn, but the royalist commander James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, retaliated and used Birkenbog as quarters for his troops.

He married first Jean Urquhart of Cromerty, second Jean Sutherland, and third (on August 22, 1668) Elizabeth Baird, daughter of Sir James Baird of Auchmedden .

After the death of Sir Alexander Abercrombie, Elizabeth Baird married Colonel Patrick Ogilvie .
