Sir Alexander Bannerman, 1st Baronet of Elsick

Biographical Summary

"Alexander Banneiiman of Elsick, co. Kincardine, s. and h. of Alexander Bannerman, of the same, by his 1st wife, Marion, da. of Alexander Hamilton, of Easter Binning, co. Linlithgow, suc. his father between 1661 and 1670 ; registered arms about 1672, and was cr. a Baronet [S.], 28 Dec. 1682, with rem. to heirs male of his body. This creation is said to have been " on account of his constant loyalty during the rebellion and of the heavy calamities he [but query if not his father] had suffered on that account." He again registered arms, but with the additions of supporters, March 1692. He in. (contract dat. 15 Feb. 1670) Margaret, 2d da. of Patrick Scott, of Thirlostane, co. Selkirk, by Isabel, da. of Sir John Murray, of Blackbarony. He d. 11 April 1711."
