About Sir Alexander Munro, Kt., 9th of Novar
Sir ALEXANDER MUNRO initially succeeded his brother the 8th Laird HECTOR MUNRO, as the 9th Laird of Novar.
ALEXANDER who was Consul-General at Madrid, in Spain and then Commissioner of Customs & Excise, in England, first married his Cousin MARGARET MUNRO (d. 1768) but their only son Capt. ALEXANDER MUNRO was killed in India in 1778.
ALEXANDER then remarried Miss JOHNSTONE, sister of General Johnstone of Auchen Castle, Dumfries, the UK with two sons and a daughter.
ALEXANDER was succeeded by his third son, HUGH ANDREW JOHNSTONE MUNRO OF NOVAR.
ALEXANDER, as the Commissioner of Customs & Excise, while discharging his duties displayed such zeal and ability that he had the honour of Knighthood conferred upon him.
On the death of his third son HUGH in 1864, the Estate of Novar passed (into the female Line) to Colonel ROBERT MUNRO-FERGUSON, son of JANE MUNRO, natural daughter of General Sir HECTOR MUNRO, 8th of Novar.
