"Alexander Murray, of Melgund, co. Forfar, posthumous s. and h. of Alexander Murray, of Melgund aforesaid, and of Priestfield, near Edinburgh (which last named estate he sold in 1676), by Janet, da. of Sir James Rochead, of Inverleith, in that county, which Alexander (who d. 1682), was 1st s. and h. of Sir Robert Murray, Lord Provost of Edinburgh (d. 1672), 2d s. of James Murray, of Deuchar, co. Selkirk (d. 1649. aged 69), who was a yr. s. (2d s. of the name of James) of Patrick Murray (d. 1581), of Philiphaugh, co. Selkirk. He was 6. 2 Aug. 1682, was served, 18 Oct. following, heir gen. of his father and heir spec, in the Barony of Melgund, 10 Sep. 1687, and was cr. a Baronet [S.], as above, 29 Jan. 1704, with rem. to heirs male whatsoever. He m. before 1707, Grizel, da. and h. of Patrick Kynynmound, of Kynynmound, co. Fife. He d. 1713, having entailed the estates of Melgund and Kynynmound, 13 Sep. 1710. His widow m. 19 Aug. 1714, Thomas Kennedy, of Kirkhill, Baron of the Exchequer, and d. 3 Feb. 1758, aged 69."

"(299) Sir Alexander Murray of Melgum, born 2nd August 1682; died 1713. Will recorded 2nd February 1727 (Edinburgh). He was served heir to his father 18th October 1683 and 10th September 1687. On 26th January 1704 he was created a Baronet. He married Grizel, daughter of Patrick Kynynmound of that Ilk, and had a son: (300) Sir Alexander Murray, second Baronet."
