Biographical Summary

Archibald Stewart of Blackhall co. Renfrew, 2d s. of John Stewart, by Mary (m. 1633), da. of Sir James Stirling, of Keir, which John, who d. v.p. before 1658, was s. and h. ap. of Sir Archibald Stewart, of Blackhall aforesaid, was b. probably about 1635 ; suc. his elder br. John Stewart, who m. but d. s.p. in 1658, and suc. his said grandfather (in the family estate) in 1665 ; was M.P. [S.] for Renfrewshire 1667, and was cr. a Baronet [S.], 27 March 1667, and, though there is no record of such creation in the Great Seal Register, 'he takes out his arms as Barronet'. He m. firstly (contract 12 March 1659) , Anne, da. and coheir of Sir John Craufurd, 1st Baronet [S. 1638], of Kilbirnie, by his 2d wife, Magdalen, da. and coheir of David Carnegy, styled Lord Carnegy, s. and h. of David, 1st Earl of Southesk [S.]. He m. secondly, Agnes Dalmaroy, probably Agnes (bap. 1 Sep. 1648), da. of Sir Alexander Dalmaroy, of that ilk, by Marion, da. of James Nisbet, of Dean. She d. s.p. He m. thirdly, Mary, da. of ( — ) Douglas. He, who was living April 1713, d. probably in or about 1722.
