  • The following, copied by Com. Casper F. Goodrich, U.S.N., from a genealogical tree extending from 1465 to 1819, in possession of James Pitt Goodrich of Egarth House, Egarth, Denbighshire, England, corroborates the foregoing and gives some additional details:

John Goodrich, first child of Edward and Jane (Williamson) Goodrich of Kirby, born 1485; married, 1507, Katherine Dymoke; was high-sheriff of Lincolnshire, 1535. 'Henry, second child of Edward and Jane Goodrich, born 1487; married, 1508, Margaret, dau. of Christopher Rawson; bought Ribston Manor, Yorkshire, from Charles Brandon, duke of Suffolk'. Thomas, third child of Edward and Jane Goodrich, born 1489; bishop of Ely, etc. Katherine, fourth child of Edward and Jane, born 1492; married Sir Thomas Mussenden. Mary, fifth child of Edward and Jane, born 1495; unm.

The Baronetcy of Goodricke of Ribston was created in the Baronetage of England by King Charles I on 14 August 1641 for his loyal supporter John Goodricke of Ribston, Yorkshire. He represented Yorkshire in the Cavalier Parliament from 1661 to his death.

The family was originally of the county of Somerset, and from there moved into Lincolnshire, upon the marriage of Henry Goodricke, esq. third son of Robert Goodricke, esq. of Nortingley, with a Lincolnshire heiress. Miss Strickford.[1]

In Lincolnshire the Goodrickes flourished for six subsequent generations, until Henry Goodricke, esq. (third and youngest son of William Goodricke, esq.—brother of Thomas Goodricke (1494–1554), Lord Bishop of Ely, and Lord Chancellor of England of [Edward VI—purchased Ribstone and other estates, in Yorkshire, from Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk in 1542.[1][2]

Henry Goodricke married Margaret, 'daughter and co-heiress of Sir Christopher Rawson, knt. of London', and dying in 1556, was succeeded, by his eldest son:[1]

Richard Goodricke, esq. of Ribstone, in Yorkshire, who was born, 1524. was high-sheriff of Yorkshire in 1579, and died 1581. He married Clare, daughter of Richard Norton, of Norton-Comers, in Yorkshire Esq; and was succeeded by his eldest son:[2]

Richard Goodricke, esq. who was born in 1560 was also high-sheriff of Yorkshire in 1591. He married Meriol, daughter of William, Lord Eure, and dying in 1601, was succeeded by his eldest son:[1] .....
