About Sir Edward le Despenser

NOTE:

It is held that this....family derived its name from their office of dispensators, or dispensers to the Earls of Chester, or possibly to the Lacys, Constables of Chester. In the early 13th century, many of the charters of the Earls of Chester are witnessed by a Thomas or a Hugh Dispensator (or both).

"Edward le Despenser (1310–1342) was the third eldest son of Hugh le Despenser the Younger by his wife Eleanor de Clare.
His father is famous for being the favourite of Edward II of England, and consequently being executed for it. Through his mother, he was a great grandson of Edward I of England."
