About Sir Gilbert Hay

Sir Gilbert de la Hay (died April 1333), fifth feudal baron of Errol in Gowrie, was Lord High Constable of Scotland from 1309 (hereditary in 1314). Gilbert was the son of Nicholas de la Haye of Erroll and Joan.

Copy agreement between abbot and convent of Aberbrothoc on one part, and Thomas Rattrie, kt., on the other, 1253. Taken from cartulary of Arbroath abbey in the Signet Library, Edinburgh.

Copy confirmation by Gilbert Hay, constable of Scotland, of charter by Robert I, 'die Jovis proximi ante festum Sancti Clementis Papae et Martyris' 1309, to abbot and convent of Coupar, of grants by Adam Glenbaclack of lands of the two Drumys and others, n.d. Not in RMS.

Copy indenture between John, abbot of Scone, and his canons, on one part, and David, abbot of Coupar, and his convent on other part, relating to perambulation and division of marches of lands of Creuchys belonging to Scone, and of lands of East and Middle Drummy, which belong to Cupar, 30 August 1466.

Instrument of sasine following on precept, 20 April 1478, by Silvester Rattray of that ilk, in favour of John Rattray, his eldest son, and Elizabeth Kennedy, his spouse, of lands of Kinballach in barony thereof, sheriffdom of Perth, 23 July 1479. Notary: Partick Barry, clerk, St Andrews diocese.

Charter by John Rattray of that ilk, kt., to John Rattray, his son and apparent heir, and Margaret Abbircromme, his spouse, of lands of Bredwellis, Ottyrburne and Clayhillis and others in barony of Rattray, sheriffdom of Perth, 15 Jan. 1506/7. Seal damaged on tag. With precept and sasine following.

Letters of respite under privy seal in favour of James Robertsoun, for art and part in slaughter of deceased Robert Rollok and David Donaldsoun, in September last, for 19 years, 16 Feb. 1545/6.

Discharge by Donald Rollok of Polcak, son of deceased Robert Rollok in Polcak, to David Rattrie of Craighall, of 500 merks Scots, as assithment and amends for murder of said Robert and David Donald in the Grainge, and of 45 merks from William Rattray, brother of said David, 8 Nov. 1572.

Letters by James, abbot of Scone, and convent thereof, appointing John Rattray of that ilk, kt., and Andrew Abbircromme of Innerpeffery, brother of said James, as bailies of regality of Scone, 18 May 1506. HMC 4th report p.536.

Copy special retour in favour of Silvester Rattray as heir of deceased John Rattray, kt., his father, at Dundee, 10 Nov. 1533.

Instrument narrating that Michael Tullo of Hilcarny, sheriff of Perth in that part, compeared in tolbooth of Dundee at instance of procurator for Silvester Rattray, and produced a commission under quarter seal for service in favour of said Silvester as heir of deceased John Rattray, his father, and deceased John Rattray, his brother, which commission was read aloud and said procurator required the necessary breives for expeding the service, 22 Oct. 1533. Precept of clare constat by Grizel Rattray of that ilk, wife of John, earl of Athol, in favour of Silvester Rattray as heir of deceased John Rattray, his brother, of lands of Bredwellis, Ottirburn and others in barony of Rattray, sheriffdom of Perth, 20 Dec. 1533. HMC 4th report p.536.
