- Dr. Steven Bird Director of Orchestras University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Hi Mike, I agree, most of the GEDCOM files on Thomas le Bird have obvious mistakes in them. Most of my information is based on a genealogy made up for the Byrds of Westover by the College of Arms in London, and published in a biography of William Byrd I of Westover. It has been quoted in several other sources as well. I don't have the exact title handy. It begins with Hugo le Bird (fl. after 1066) and continues down to the William Byrd generation. I believe that this particular genealogy is widely accepted as being mostly correct, although somewhat incomplete in the "parallel" family lines of Birds, rather than Byrds....after reviewing the information in the Byrd biography's genealogy, I am now convinced that the Byrds of VA, Birds of CT, and Birds of MA are in fact one family, with the three branches originating in the 1550's with three brothers, Thomas le Bird (m. Ales Palyn), Robert Bird (m. Elizabeth Holland), and John le Bird (m. Elizabeth Burgh als Copparsmith).
