Biographical Summary

"Sir Hew Crawfurd, Baronet [S 1628] of Jordanhill, co Renfrew, son and heir of Hew Crawfurd, of the same, by Mary, daughter of of the Rev. James Greenshields, Rector of Finnough, co Tipperary, which Hew (who died 8 February 1756) was son and heir of James Crawfurd, Sheriff Depute of Renfrewshire (died 1695), 2nd son of Hew Crawfurd, son and heir apparent (died v.p.) of Cornelius Crawfurd of Jordanhill (died 1687), son and heir of Hew Crawfurd, of the same (1586-1621), 2nd son of Thomas Crawfurd, also of Jordanhill (died 1603), who was younger brother of Hugh Crawfurd, of Kilbirnie, ancestor of 1st Baronet, both being sons of Laurence Crawfurd of Kilbirnie, who died 1547 aged 41.

He succeeded his father 8 February 1756, and was served his heir 8 December 1756. On 19 July 1765, he was served, by the Sheriff of Edinburgh and a special jury, heir male of the 1st Baronet, and, consequently assumed the Baronetcy. He married Robina, only daughter and heir of Captain John Pollok, of Balgray by Ann Lockhart , daughter of John Lockhart of Lee, which John Pollok was 3rd son of Sir Robert Pollok, 1st Baronet [S 1703], of Nether Pollok, county Renfrew. He died 1 July 1794. His widow, who, on the death of Jean Pollok, spinster, in 1807, inherited the estates of the Pollok family, took the name of Pollok, and died 1820."

VII. Hew Crawfurd, afterwards Sir Hew Crawfurd of Jordanhill, who, on Wednesday, 8 December 1756, was served heir to his father, and afterwards on Friday, 19 July 1765 was served heir male to Sir John Crawford of Kilbirny, Bart (No. 17 in that family, see Page 233). He married Robina Pollock, only child of Captain John Pollock of Balgray, (second surviving son of Sir Robert Pollock of that Ilk, Bart.) by Anne Lockhart, daughter of John Lockhart of Lee (see Renfrew Page 293) by whom he had issue,

1. Robert Crawfurd; 2. Hew Crawfurd, a captain in the army, (who married Jane, daughter of William Johnston, Esq. of Headfort; by whom he had issue, Hew, an officer in the army; Robert; Jane Pollock; Marion; Anne.) —
3. Mary Crawfurd, married to Colonel Hamilton, of Bardowie;
4. Robina Crawfurd;
5. Lucken Crawfurd, married to General John Gordon Skene of Pitlurg, Dice, etc. issue four sons and five daughters.
The eldest son is:

VIII. Sir Robert Crawfurd Pollock of Pollock and Kilbirny.
