Biographical Summary
"Sir James Fergusson, Baronet [S. 1703], of Kilkerran, nephew and h., being b. and h. of Charles Fergusson, of London, merchant, by Ann, da. of John Fordyce, of New Broad street, in that city, and of Ayton, co. Berwick, which Charles was next br. to the late Baronet. He was b. 20 Oct. 1765, and suc. to the Baronetcy. 23 Sep. 1813. He m. firstly, 8 Oct. 1799, his cousin, Jean, 2d da. of Sir David Dalrymple, 3d Baronet [S. 1701], of Hailes, by Helen, da. of Sir James Fergusson, 2d Baronet [S. 1703], She d. 6 May 1803. He m. secondly, 15 Dec. 1804, Henrietta, sister of Robert, 1st Earl of Camperdown, 2d da. of Adam (Duncan), 1st Viscount Duncan of Camperdown (the celebrated Admiral), by Henrietta, da. of the Rt. Hon. Robert Dundas. He d. 10 April 1838, in Edinburgh, aged 72. His widow, to whom the precedence of the da. of an Earl was granted by Royal warrant, 29 Oct. 1833, d. 14 May 1850."
