Biographical Summary
"James Sinclair, of Dunbeath, co. Caithness, 4th s. of William Sinclair, of Latheron in that county, and of Dunbeath aforesaid (M.P. [S.] for Caithness-shire, 1661-63), by Elizabeth, da. of Sir James Sinclair, 1st Baronet [S. 1631], of Mey, suc. to the estate of Dunbeath, on the death of his father in 1690, and suc. to that of Stemster, co. Caithness, on the death, Dec. 1699, of his br. William Sinclair, to whom he was served, 28 Feb. 1701, heir of entail and provision general, was M.P. [S.] for Caithness-shire, 1703-7 and was cr. a Baronet [S.], as above, the sign manual, being dat. at Windsor, 12 Oct. 1704, with rem. to heirs male for ever. He m. firstly Isabel, da. and coheir of Sir Archibald Muir, of Thornton, co. Ayr, L. Provost of Edinburgh. He m. secondly Isobel, da. of John Lumsden, shipmaster, in Aberdeen, but by her had no male issue. He d. 28 Sep. 1742."
