About Sir John Barrington, 3rd Baronet Barrington

From the book, "Baronetage of England," published 1806: II. Sir THOMAS, who was knighted during his father's life. He married first, Frances, daughter and coheir of John Gobert, Esq. by whom he had a daughter, Lucy, and two sons ; John, who succeeded him, and Sir Gobert Barrington, Knt. Sir Thomas had to his second lady, Judith, daughter of Sir Rowland Lytton, Knt. who died without issue in 1657, and Sir Thomas in 1644. He was succeeded by his eldest son, III. Sir JOHN.

III. Sir JOHN, who married Dorothy, daughter of Sir William Lytton, Knt. by whom he had five sons : 1, Thomas ; 2, Francis, who died unmarried; 3, John, who married Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Hawkins, Gent, and had issue Sir John ; 4, Francis ; and 5, William. Also nine daughters. Thomas Barrington, Esq. eldest son of Sir John, married the Lady Anne, daughter and coheir of Robert Rich, Earl of Warwick, and had by her three sons, Sir John, Sir Charles, and Richard, who died unmarried and two daughters, Mary, and Anne. The said Thomas died during his father's life, Jan. 1681.

Sir John Barrington, 3rd Bt. was born in 1605.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Barrington, 2nd Bt. and Francis Gobert.1 He married Dorothy Lytton, daughter of Sir William Lytton and Anne Slaney, before 1643.1 He died on 24 March 1682/83.1 He was buried on 3 April 1683 at Hatfield Broadoak, Essex, England.1 He died intestate and his estate was administered on 11 April 1683.1

Sir John Barrington, 3rd Bt. was admitted to Gray's Inn on 6 November 1635.1 He was invested as a Knight on 8 May 1638 at Whitehall, London, England.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Barrington, of Barrington Hall [in Hatfield Broadoak], co. Essex [E., 1611] circa September 1644.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newport, Isle of Wight between November 1645 and December 1648.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Essex from 1654 to 1655.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Hertfordshire from 1654 to 1655.1 He was nominated as one of the members of the High Court of Justice to try King Charles I, but he refused to attend its meetings or sign the warrant for teh king's execution.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newport, Isle of Wight between 1660 and 1679.1
