JOHN TUCHET, Knt., of Ashwell, Rutland, Markeaton, Derbyshire, Leegomery (in Wellington), Shropshire, etc., and Buglawton and Newhall, Cheshire, Keeper of Llandover Castle, Keeper of Brecknock Castle, son and heir, born 23 April 1371. He was co-heir in 1391 to his great-uncle, Nicholas Audley, Knt., 3rd Lord Audley, by which he inherited a on-third share in the Audley barony, including the Castle and lordship of Heleigh, Staffordshire, and the Castle and lordship of Newport (in Camois), Pembrokeshire. He married before 1398 ELIZABETH STAFFORD, daughter of Humphrey Stafford, Knt., of Amblecote, Bramshall, and Perton, Staffordshire, by his 1st wife, Alice, daughter and heiress of John Grenville, Knt. They had one son, James [5th Lord Augley], and two daughters, Margaret and 'Elizabeth (wife of John Baskerville, Knt.)'. He was in the Welsh wars against Owen Glendower. He was summoned to Parliament on 20 Oct. 1403, by writ directed Johanni Tochet, and from 25 August 1404 to 26 August 1407, by writs directed Johanni Tuchet. He was frequently styled Lord Audley in offical documents, although never summoned to Parliament as such. in 1404 he was at Coventry with 30 squires and 60 archers. In 1405 they received a papal indult for a portable altar. He was present at the surrender of Aberystwith in 1407. SIR JOHN TUCHET, 4th Lord Audley, died 19 Dec. 1408. in 1409 the king requested that his widow's brother, Humphrey Stafford the younger, deliver her son and heir to his custody. In 1436 Thomas Stawell, Knt. sued Elizabeth, late the wife of John Tuchet, Knt., her son, James Tuchet, Knt., her brother, John Stafford, Bishop of Bath and Wells, and William Lee for the manors of Nether Stowey, Honeybare, etc., Somerset. A verdict was delivered in favor of the defendants. She died 1446-7 (date of her IPM).
