Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Baronet

Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Bt. succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Brownlow, of Humby, co. Lincoln [E., 1641] on 30 August 1668.

On 23 November 1679 he inherited the Belton estates of his great-uncle Sir John, 1st and last Baronet.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Grantham from 1689 to 1697.

Brownlow was the eldest surviving son[1] of Sir Richard Brownlow, 2nd Baronet of Humby, and Elizabeth Freke. He was educated at Westminster School. He succeeded his father as third Baronet of Humby in 1668 and in 1679 he inherited the Belton estates, including Belton House, from his great-uncle Sir John Brownlow, 1st Baronet of Belton.

In 1686 he was treasurer of the Marshalsea and in 1688 appointed as High Sheriff of Lincolnshire. In 1689 he was elected to the House of Commons for Grantham, a seat he held until his premature death in 1697.

Brownlow married Alice, daughter of Richard Sherard, in 1676. He died in July 1697, aged only 38, without surviving male issue. He was succeeded in his title by his younger brother William Brownlow. His daughter Elizabeth married John Cecil, 6th Earl of Exeter.
