Biographical Summary

"Sir John Bruce, Baronet [S 1668] of Kinross and Balcaskie, only son and heir by 1st wife; was M.P. [S] for Kinross-shire, 1702-07 and [G.B.] 1707-08; succeeded to the Baronetcy, 1 January 1710. He married May 1687, Christan, Dow. Marchiness of Montrose [S], 2nd daughter and coheir of John (Leslie), Duke of Rothes [S], by Anne, daughter of John (Lindsay), Earl of Crawfurd and Lindsay [S]. He died shortly after his father, s.p.m., at Glasgow, 19 March 1710, whn the Baronetcy became extinct, but the estate of Kinross devolved on his only sister and the heirs male of her body, subject to taking the name of Bruce of Kinross. His widow died at Edinburgh, 21 April and was buried 1 May 1710, in the Abbey church there. Funeral entry in Lyon office."
