About Sir John Colquhoun of Luss, 2nd Bt.

Biographical Summary

"Sir John Colquhoun, Baronet [S 1625] of Luss, 1st son and heir, born about 1622; succeeded to the family estates in 1647 (which had been preserved to the family by his uncle Sir Humphrey Colquhoun, of Balvie, who was M.P. [S], for Dumbartonshire, 1643-49); succeeded to the Baronetcy about 1650. He purchased the estate of Balloch in 1652, and acquired that of Lochend, co Haddington (which, however, he sold in 1678) by marriage; was M.P. [S] for Dumbartonshire 1650, 1661-63, 1665, 1667, and 1669-74. He married (contract 17 February 1636) Margaret, daughter and heir of Sir Gideon Baillie, Baronet [S 1636], by Magdalen, daughter and coheir of David Carnegie, style Lord Carnegie. He died 11 April 1676. His widow married 1 April 1677, Archibald Stirling of Garden, and died 20 July 1679."
