"Sir John Falconer, of Balmakellie, third son of Sir Alexander Falconer of Halkertoun and his wife Agnes, and younger brother of the first Lord Falconer of Halkertoun, was master of the mint in the reign of Charles the Second. He had a son, Robert, a merchant in London, James, the fourth son, was designed of Coatfield in the county of Elgin."

from The Scottish Nation: Falconer

Sir John Falconer was a witness to the baptism in 1679 in Edinburgh of the eldest daughter, Elizabeth, of Captain John Strauchan and Elizabeth Hamilton.

Note: some published genealogical databases show Sir John Falconer to have died in 1670, based on a memorial in Greyfriars. The date of the baptism noted above shows clearly that 1670 is erroneous as his year of death, as do other texts eg Proceedings Against the Earl of Lauderdale in volume 11 of the Complete Collection of State Trials. 2 3

John married Sibil OGILVY. (Sibil OGILVY was born about 1600 and died on 4 December 1634.)

John next married Esther BRIOT, daughter of Nicolas BRIOT Graver of the Mint to King Louis XIII and Unknown, in 1637. (Esther BRIOT was born about 1620.)
