Sir William Fitz-Wiliam lived in the Reign of King Henry the Vth; to him Henry Bewett, Archbihop of York, did Homage. He married Eleanor, Daughter of Sir Henry Green of Drayton, and had issue....another John, who was of Milton and Green's Norton, and married Ellen, Daughter of William Villers of Brooksby in Com. Leicester, Efq; from whom the Earl Fitz-William is descended.

• Sir Henry Green (c. 1347 – 1399) was a courtier and councillor to Richard II.
• Born in Greens Norton, Northamptonshire,[citation needed] he was the son of Sir Henry Green, a lawyer and Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, by his second marriage to Katherine Drayton, daughter of Sir John Drayton of Drayton.[1]
• Green inherited Drayton House in Northamptonshire at his father's death in 1370. He became a JP in 1380 and MP for Huntingdonshire in 1390, for Northamptonshire in 1394 and 1397 and finally in the autumn of 1397 MP for Wiltshire. He also served in France with John of Gaunt.
• He became a close confidante of King Richard II. Along with Sir John Bussy and Sir William Bagot he was appointed one of the eccentric Richard's 'continual councillors' who gained an unsavoury reputation. At one point they advised the king to confiscate the lands of the exiled Henry Bolingbroke, Earl of Hereford.
• When Bolingbroke returned from exile in 1399 to reclaim his inheritance, the three councillors decided flight was the best option. Bussy and Green sought sanctuary in Bristol Castle but were delivered up to Bolingbroke on 23 July 1399, who had them beheaded the following day.
• He married Maud (or Matilda) Mauduit, daughter and heiress of Thomas Mauduit, by whom he had several children, including a daughter, Eleanor, who married Sir John Fitzwilliam (d. 5 July 1417).[2][3] He was succeeded by his son, Ralph Greene.
• All three continual councillors (referred to as "caterpillars") feature in Shakespeare's historical play King Richard II, generally listed as "Bushy, Baghot and Green". Green also appears in the anonymous Elizabethan play Thomas of Woodstock.

• Robert Waterton, (c. 1360 – 17 January 1425) was a trusted servant of the House of Lancaster under three monarchs, Henry IV, Henry V, and Henry VI. As Constable of Pontefract Castle, he had custody of Richard II after that king was deposed.[1][2]
• Robert Waterton, likely born circa 1360, was the son of John Waterton[3] of Waterton, Lincolnshire and Joan, daughter of Peter de Mauley, 2nd Baron Mauley.[2] He had a brother, John Waterton,[2] and was a nephew of Sir Hugh Waterton.[4] .... etc.
• Sir Robert Waterton (I) married secondly, by 1422, Margaret Clarell (a Lady of the Garter), widow of Sir John Fitzwilliam (d. 17 September 1421) of Sprotborough, Yorkshire, son and heir of Sir John Fitzwilliam (d. 5 July 1417) by Eleanor Greene, daughter of Sir Henry Greene. Margaret Clarell was the daughter of Thomas Clarell, esquire, of Aldwark, North Yorkshire, by Maud Montgomery, daughter of Sir Nicholas Montgomery (d.1424) of Cubley, Derbyshire.[17][18]
• By her first husband, Margaret Clarell had two sons, Sir William Fitzwilliam, who married Elizabeth Chaworth, and John Fitzwilliam, and a daughter, Eleanor Fitzwilliam, who married Sir William Ryther. After Robert Waterton's death, Margaret Clarell contracted a clandestine marriage, on 7 February 1426, to Sir William Gascoigne (c.1405 – before March 1454) of Gawthorpe, Yorkshire, grandson of William Gascoigne, Chief Justice of England, by whom she had four sons and five daughters.[17][19][20][2][21]
