Sir John Nicolson of Lasswade, here treated, formerly Master John Nicolson of Lasswade, younger, is the eldest son and heir of Master John Nicolson of Lasswade, elder On 19 May 1607 he had a charter of confirmation for the lands of Lasswade from the Bishop of St. Andrews, who recognised him as the eldest son and heir of his deceased father. Biographical Summary

John Nicolson of Laswade, co Midlothian, son and heir of John Nicolson of the same, Advocate [S] and Commissary of Edinburgh (who had acquired that estate in 1590), by Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Henderson; was created a Baronet [S] 27 July, the patent being sealed 31 December 1629 with rem. to heirs whatsoever and with a grant of, presumably, 16,000 acres in Nova Scotia, of which he had seizin in February 1630.
