About Sir John Norton, 3rd Baronet Norton of Rotherfield
Sir John Norton, 3rd Baronet Norton, was the son of Sir Richard Norton, 1st Baronet, and wife Mabell Becher. He inherited the title from his brother who had no male heirs. Sir John also had no male heirs and the title became extinct on his death in 1687.

b. 7 Dec. 1619, 2nd s. of Sir Richard Norton, 1st Bt.† (d.1645), of Rotherfield Park by Amy, da. of Thomas Bilson, bp. of Winchester 1597-1616. educ. Corpus Christi, Oxf. 1637; M. Temple 1641. m. c.1658, Dorothy, da. and h. of Thomas March of Ely, Cambs., s.p. suc. bro. Aug./Sept. 1652. He on 9 Jan. 1687 and was buried at East Tisted.

Sir John Norton monument - St James' church, East Tisted
At the east end of the north aisle is the recumbent armed effigy, in white marble, of Sir John Norton, 1686, resting on a white marble base with a large gadrooned cornice and a long inscription. Behind the effigy is a black marble frame, and above it a cornice on which is a shield with crest and supporters, bearing the Norton arms impaling March.
