"Sir John Steuart, Baronet [S. 1687], of Allanbank, 1st s. and h., b. 1714 ; admitted an Advocate, 1737 ; suc. to the Baronetcy, 19 May 1753 ; Sheriff of Berwickshire, 1755 ; Solicitor for the Stamp Duties [S.]. He m. 9 Oct. 1750 (settlement 13 March 1752), Margaret Agnes, sister of Hugh Smith, otherwise Seton, da. of Charles Smith, of Boulogne, wine merchant. She d. 23 Sep. 1807, in her 79th year. He d. 7 Oct. 1796, in his 82d year."
