Sir John Yorke, Kt., of Gouthwaite was the son of Thomas Yorke, of Parcevall Hall and Frances Babthorpe.

Sir John Yorke of Gowthwaite (or Gouthwaite) was born about 1598 and married, firstly, Florence Sharpe of Westmoreland about 1623. They had three daughters:

  1. Elizabeth (married James Leslie, 3rd Lord Lindores),
  2. Frances (married Thomas Barney), and
  3. Jane (or Anna Jean) (married David Leslie, 1st Baron Newark).

Sir John married as his second wife, Catherine, daughter of Sir William Ingleby Daniel of Beswick, and had one son:

  1. John (1634-1663), who was elected to the House of Commons and was knighted by Charles II in 1660. ([1]).

Sir John died in 1638.
