Biographical Summary

"Sir Lauchlan Maclean of Morvaren, or Morven, son and heir of Hector Og Maclean of Duart, by his 1st wife, Jeannette, daughter of Colin Mackenzie of Kintail; succeeded his father in 1618; was M.P. [S] for Tarbat Sheriffdom, 1628-33, and was created a Baronet [S] 3 September 1631, or 13 February 1632, the patent being sealed 12 January 1632, but not recorded in the Great Seal Register [S], with rem. to heirs male whatsoever, and with a grant of, presumably, 16,000 acres in Nova Scotia, entitled the Barony of New Morvaren, of which he had seizin in February 1632. He was a Royalist, and, as such, was at the battles of Inverlochy and (August 1645) of Kilsyth. He married Mary, 2nd daughter of Roderick Macleod of Macleod, by Isabel, daughter of Donald Macdonald of Glengarry. He died 18 April 1649."
