Sir Lewis Craig of Riccartoun, here treated, is the son of Thomas Craig of Riccartoun The name of his mother has not been satisfactoril identified. Brunton and Haig identify him as the son of Lady Helen Heriot College of Justice: 244 but the year of birth they proposed for him suggests that he is more likely to have been the son of Helen Hamilton Stirnet: Craig 01 He is reported by Brunton and Haig to have been born in 1569. 25 January 1610: Charter issued under the Great Seal of Scotland by which James VI, King of Scots, confirms that he has granted anew the lands of Ricartoune and Keirhill to Sir Ludovico Craig of Wrichtislandis, one of the senators of the college of justice, and his wife Beatrice Chyrnesyd, who were to hold the same in conjunct fee and liferent. Biographical Summary by George Brunton and David Haig

Sir Lewis Craig of Wrights Lands. Eldest son of the celebrated Thomas Craig, by Helen, daughter of Heriot of Trabroun, was born in 1569. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh, under the eye of his father, and took his degree of Master of Arts on 30th July 1597. He afterwards studied the civil law for two years at Poieters ; and returning to his native was admitted an advocate of 11th June 1600. He was knighted and appointed an Ordinary Lord sometime between the 24th February 1604 and 19th June 1605. He died before 6th June 1622, on which date Thomas Henderson of Chesters was promoted in his place. It has been recorded to Sir Lewis' credit, that he always uncovered when his father was pleading, although the Lords at that period, wore their hats on the bench.

Sir Lewis Craig, Lord Wrightslands (1569-1622), was a Scottish judge.....Craig was the eldest son of Sir Thomas Craig of Riccarton, by Helen, daughter of Heriot of Traboun. He was educated at Edinburgh University, where he graduated M.A. in 1597. He studied the civil law at Poitiers, was admitted a member of the Faculty of Advocates in 1600, knighted and appointed an ordinary lord of session in 1604-5.
