The Question of Identity

Patrick Crichton, here treated is the son of Robert Crichton of Sanquhar. His father married a lady named Elizabeth but it is not clear who his mother was. The Scots Peerage III: 221 He was one of the heirs in remainder named in his father's charter in favour of his son Alexander Crichton. Hus father's charter was issuedat Edinburgh on 20 October 1463. RMS, 1424-1513: 756 Patrick Crichton, here treated was also named as one of the heirs in remainder in a charter by which his father confirmed that had given various lands in the lordship of Murray to his son Lawrence Crichton. The charter was issued at Perth on 18 June 1467. RMS, 1424-1513: 926 It seems clear, therefore, that Patrick Crichton, here treated, is not the same person as Sir Patrick Crichton of Cranston-Riddell who was the son of Sirs David Crichton of Cranston-Riddell.

Patrick Crichton, Born about 1405 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Son of Patrick Crichton and [mother unknown] Father of Agnes (Crichton) Kerr and Janet (Crichton) Douglas

Note: Wikitree identifies Agnes Crichton as the wife of Andrew Kerr, and Janet Crichton as the wife of John Douglas.Their identification is inadequate, but in spite of this it seems cear that the author of this bogus pedigree mistakenly believed that Patrick Crichton was the same person as Sir Patrick Crichton of Cranston-Riddell
