He was born at of Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England. He married Hawise de Lovaine, daughter of Sir Mathew de Lovaine and Muriel (Amy).4,5 Sir Philip Basset, Justiciar of England married Ela Longespee, daughter of Sir William Longespee, Earl of Salisbury, Sheriff of Wiltshire, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Somersetshire, Devonshire, Shropshire, & Staffordshire and Ela of Salisbury, circa 23 March 1254; They had no issue.9 Sir Philip Basset, Justiciar of England died on 29 October 1271; Buried at Stanley, Wiltshire.9

Philip Basset (c. 1185 – 19 October 1271) was the Justiciar of England.

Philip was the son of Alan Basset of High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire and his wife, Aline Degai.

He inherited the manor of Wycombe; the town received market borough status in 1237.

Basset served as the Justiciar of England between the two terms served by his son-in-law, Hugh le Despencer, 1st Baron le Despencer.[3]

He served during the period that Henry III regained control of the government from the Barons.
