Sir Ralph Ryther was born circa 1451 at Ryther, Yorkshire. He was aged 40 or more at this brother's Inq.P.M. in Aug 1491 and aged 70 at his death in April 1520 according to Raine.. He was the son of Sir William Ryther and Eleanor Fitzwilliam. Sir Ralph Ryther witnessed a will of John Lathom, canon of Beverley as Radulphe Rither, generoso,which was proved 8 August 1476 before 8 August 1476.

Sir Ralph Ryther married Catherine Constable before 1485. Sir Ralph Ryther was the heir of Sir Robert Ryther at the Inquisition Post Mortem held 2 October 2 Henry VII [1486]. Commission of concealments: Robert Ryder. He died, date unknown, seised in fee of the undermentioned moiety. Ralph Ryder, aged 34 years and more, is brother and heir. York: Moiety of the manor of Harewood worth 100 marks, held of the King in chief by knight service. Sir Ralph Ryther was the heir of Sir Robert Ryther at the Inquisition Post Mortem held at Yorkshire on 3 August 1491. Robert Ryther, knt. Writ wanting; inquisition 3 Aug 6 Hen.VII. He died seized of the under-mentioned moiety of the manor of Harwod in tail male, by the gift of Thomas Thwates, and William Barker, made by way of fine, with the King's licence, to one William Ryther, Knt, and Sibyl his wife, thereof, in tail male, with remainder in default to the right heirs, he being cousin and heir male of the said William and Sibyl, viz., son of William, son of William their son.

He also died seized in tail male of the under-mentioned manor and advowson of Ryther, by virtue of the gift thereof made by John son of Robert Roos, by way of fine and with the King's licence, to one William Ryther and Lucy his wife in tail male, with remainder to the right heirs of the said William, he being cousin and heir male of the said William and Lucy, viz, son of William, son of William, son of William, son of Robert, son of Robert, son of Robert their son.

He died the last day of June last, seized of the under-mentioned manors and lands in fee. Ralph Ryther, esq. aged 40 or more, is his brother and next heir.

York. A moiety in the manor of Harwod, in Harwod, Dunkyswyk and Helthwayt, worth 25l., held of the King in chief, by service of 1/4 of a knight's fee.

Manor and advowson of the parish church of Ryther, in Ryther, Ossendak, and Stokbryge, worth 100 marks, held of the King, as of the duchy of Lancaster, as of the honour of Pontfrett, by service of 1/8 of a knight's fee.

Manor of Skarcroft, worth 10l., held of Henry Wavasour, knt., by the rent of a rose in the time of roses if required.

A moiety of the manor of Kyrkeby Overblowers, worth 4 marks, held of Henry, Earl of Northumberland, as of the manor of Spofford, by fealty, other services unknown.

Three messuages and 40 a. meadow and pasture in Kyrkeby on Wharffe, worth 40s, held of the King, as of the duchy of Lancaster, by fealty only.

He served in battle in September 1497. He was made banneret by the Earl of Surrey in Scotland.

Sir Ralph Ryther married secondly Maude or Matilda Percy circa 1500. His second wife was Maud daughter of Henry Percy 4th? Earl of Northumberland, who survived him (her stepson's inquisition). Sir Ralph Ryther was Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1503. He was probably a member of the royal household, he was appointed KB on Prince Henry's creation as Duke of York on 1 November 1494, and was made a Knight Banneret in 1497 while campaigning in Scotland.

Between 1504 and 1515, Ralph Ryther, knight v. William Gascoigne, knight.: Refusal to pay, as agreed after arbitration, complainant being surety, to James Stanley, esquire, a life annuity for the fee simple of the manor of Thorp in Balne.: York.

Margaret Rither, late the wife of Nicholas Rither, and John Rither her son. v. Raffe Rither, knight, brother of the said Nicholas.: Detention of deeds relating to lands in York, Cawode, Huby, Fenton, and Kesewyk.: York. 1504-1515.

The Earl of Ancaster Alford court rolls at Lincs Archives mention Lords of the Manor: Ralph Rither Thos. Rither Henry Rither John Rither between 1509-1546.

On 7 Oct 1510 Sir Ralph enfeoffed Sir William Percy and others with his two Lincolnshire manors Alford and Kelcottes, for the use of 'Dame MAtilde' his wife, for her life.

Sir Ralph Ryther was mentioned in a deed dated 7 October 1511 at Alford, Lincolnshire. By deed dated 7 Oct 3 Hen VIII [1511], Sir Ralph had by feoffment passed over the manors of Keliotts and Alford in Lincolnshire, to the use of his son Ralph & his heirs.

Letter from Ralph Ryther: To my cousin, Sir Robert Plompton, knyght, be these byll. Right worshipfull cousin, I recommend me unto you, desiring to hear of your welfare; praying you to give me ij couple of conyes [rabbits] to stocking of a little ground that I make at Ryther, and shall doe you as great a pleassure. I pray you that I may be recomend to my lady your wyfe. We have rest [that is no bucks were to be killed out of the stock in the park at Ryther in that year], and past this summer I wyll pray you to come and kill a bucke with me. I pray you, Cousin, that the bringer hereof, my servant, may have the conyes, and Jesu keepe you. At Ryther, this fryday. By your Cousin, Ralfe Ryther.

1585 visitation of Yorkshire: daughters Elizabeth married Wm Acclom of Noreby & had issue - attested by her grandson living in 1585; Elinor married John Aske & had issue - attested by her son Richard living 1585. Ralph was married to Katherine, daughter of Sir Robert Constable of Everingham.

Sir Ralph Ryther made a will dated 26 March 1520. His will made on the 26 March 1520 directs burial at Ryther and mentions his daughter Elizabeth, son and heir Thomas, son Henry (under 18) and daughter Elyn Aske. There is no mention of Harewood. His son Thomas was one of the executors.

Ralph died on 2 April 1520 at Sheffield, Yorkshire. Oct 7, 3 Hen VIII according to his son's will ?. He was buried after 2 April 1520 at All Hallows, Ryther, Yorkshire.

His will was proved on 26 April 1520 at the Prerogative Court of York.

Sir Ralph Ryther was the subject of an Inquisition Post Mortem held on 14 May 1520.
