Son and heir to Sir James Carew and Eleanor Hoo, grandson of Nicholas Carew and Margaret Fiennes, Thomas Hoo and Eleanor Welles.
Husband of Mayln Oxenbridge, daughter of Sir Robert Oxenbridge and Anne Lyvelode. They had one son and four daughters.
Sir Richard was made Banneret by King Henry VII after the Battle of Blackheath against the Cornish in 1497.
Buried in Carew Chapel, St. Marys in Beddington.
