About Sir Richard Temple, 1st Viscount Cobham

In 1715 Richard Temple married Anne Halsey daughter of Edmund Halsey owner of the Anchor Brewery. Her inheritance enabled him to maintain Stowe Park.They had NO CHILDREN. The title passed to his cousin William Temple (son of William Temple of Lillingstone Dayrell, Bucks.and Eleanor Tyrrell daughter of Sir Timothy Tyrell of Okeley). who became 5th Bt of Stowe. Sir William Temple 5th Bt. and his wife Elizabeth Paxton (heiress of Dr Peter Paxton of Buckingham) had one son Paxton Temple who died aged 25 in 1745, and one daughter Henrietta (born Dec 1723 died April 1797) who married the Rev.William Dicken of Shenton, Salop. Their son John Dicken took the name and arms of Temple by Royal Licence in 1796. On the death of Sir William Temple 5th Bt. in 1760 the title passed on to his brother Sir Peter Temple 6th. Bt of Stowe.
