According to Frances J. Grant: "Robert Bruce of Cultmalindie, in the parish of Tibbermore and County of Perth, was the second son of John Bruce, fifth laird of Clackmannan, by his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Sir David Stewart of Rossyth, and died in 1508, having married, in 1475, Janet, daughter and co-heiress of John Barbour of Cultmalindie, with whom he received a half of these lands, and had issue."
