Sir Robert George Crookshank Hamilton is the son of the Reverend Zachary Macaulay Hamilton, DD., and his wife, Ane Irvine Crookshank. He was born on 30 August 1836 and his baptism was registered at Bressay in Shetland, Scotland, on 22 September 1836
