Biographical Summary
"Sir Robert Sinclair, of Longformacus, co. Berwick, son and heir of James Sinclair, of the same, by Helen, daughter of Patrick Hepburn, of Nunraw, co Haddington, succeeded his father before September 1632, to whom he was served heir in Longformacus, 4 November 1647; was a steady Royalist; an Advocate [S], 9 July 1647, and was created a Baronet [S], 10 December 1664, with rem. to the heirs male of his body. He was M.P. [S] for co Berwick 1665-67 and 1669-74; acquired the Barony of Lochend, co Haddington, lands at Ellem, Hairhead, etc, co Berwick, and obtained the creation of Longformacus into a free Barony. He married firstly, Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Robert Douglas of Blackerston, co Berwick. He married secondly, in 1672, Margaret, sister and heir of William (Alexander), 2nd Earl of Stirling [S], daughter of William Alexander, styled Viscount Canada, by Margaret, daughter of William (Douglas), 1st Marquess of Douglas [S]. By her he had no male issue. He died 1678."
