Bio==Thomas Clifton, II, Baronet, son of Thomas Clifton who fled the country after the Royalist defeat during the English Civil War when son Thomas was 14 years old, was born 1628 at Westby, Lancashire, England. <ref> Fishwick, Henry, Chetham Society, 1874; "The History of the Parishof Kirkham, in the County of Lancaster", pg.36. https://archive.org/details/historyparishki00socigoog/page/n13?q=Ki... </ref>

At the time of the Parliamentary survey (1650) the tithes of Kirkham were 'leased to Thomas Clifton esq., a papist delinquent, under a yearly rent paid to the college, the said rent being uncertain, rysing or falling according to the prise of corne or greyne sold at the markett att Oxford, and they were then 'under sequestration for the delinquencyof Mr. Clifton.' The tithes of Little Eccleston with Larbrick, Freckleton, Bryning with Kellermargh, Thistleton and Hambleton then were held by Pnnyston Whalley esq. in the right of his wife Margaret, late wife of Cuthbert Clifton, gentleman deceased, by assignment from Thomas Clifton for some years. <ref> Fishwick, Henry; pg.36-7. </ref>
Thomas "...fought for the King during the Great Rebellion, had four brothers killed fighting for the same cause, one at Manchester, one at Wigan Lane, and two at Thetford House; his father (who Commanded a Regiment for the King) died of this wounds also; he had his property confiscated by Oliver Cromwell and was forced to fly; during his exile wenton a pilgrimage to the Holy Lane; at the Restoration he recovered hisestate and was made a Baronet by Charles II; during the reign of William and Mary was tried for High Treason, having offered to raise at his own cost a troop of horse for James II."
