About Sir Thomas Hope, Kt.
Biographical Summary
"Sir Thomas of Kerse and Wester Granton, born 6 August 1606, admitted Advocate 17 July 1631, and was knighted by Charles I at Innerwick 16 July 1633; sat in Parliament for Clackmannan 1639-41, and for Stirlingshire 1643; in 1640 was constituted colonel of the troop of Horse raised by the College of Justice to attend General Leslie as his bodyguard when he marched into England at the head of the Scottish army. In November 1641 he was raised to the Bench by the King with the consent of the Estates, and was also created Justice-General. He died at Edinburgh v.p. 23 August 1643. He married, before 18 December 1630, Helen, third daughter and co-heiress of Adam Rae of Pitsindie, by whom he had issue."
